Seven generations of the Bankes family of Kingston Lacy (and Corfe Castle) contained some formidable women and this talk pinpoints those whose contributions were as valuable as some of their more illustrious male counterparts.
David Beardsley, after careers as a teacher and a civil servant, worked as a researcher for the Bankes Archive from 2015 – 2018 and gave us a talk on “Unlocking the Bankes Archives” last autumn. He is at present writing a biography of John Ralph Bankes (1937-1996).
